Zona Franca La Cayena was born from the need of the company Alfacer del Caribe to serve the Colombian Atlantic coast, the islands and the northern United States. After exploring different locations, Alfacer del Caribe decided to locate in the city of Barranquilla and create a construction cluster.

On October 25, 2007, the DIAN, through Resolution 12560 of 2007, declared a geographic area as La Cayena Permanent Free Trade Zone and authorized the company Zona Franca del Caribe S.A. as operating user. - ZOFRACAR S.A. Nit 900.107.673-2.

Zona Franca del Caribe S.A., celebrates the act of qualification of ANCLA Alfacer del Caribe and Sigma Steel, marking the beginning of its operations in the national and international market, being the United States its main commercial partner.

El 27 de diciembre del 2010 se califica el usuario HADA INTERNATIONAL logrando en los años posteriores una participación del 6% en las operaciones aduaneras de Zona Franca La Cayena, mientras continúa explorando nuevas negociaciones de maquila y servicios logísticos, así como la diversificación de productos con clientes adicionales. Hasta la fecha son 13 usuarios calificados operando en Zona Franca La Cayena.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit granted the declaration of expansion for the La Cayena Free Trade Zone, stipulating an additional area of 1'500,000 m2 to continue serving national and international markets through its qualified users.

Zona Franca La Cayena had an important advance and growth in its infrastructure, being able to connect to the national energy network with a power of 34.5 KV, this important achievement allows strengthening its operations and offering an even more efficient and reliable service to all users.

In 2015, 61,163 customs operations were recorded, evidencing the growth and positioning of Zona Franca La Cayena.

To date, Zona Franca La Cayena has 25 qualified users, among them: FBU Logistics, Optima Balistic Glass, C7R

In 2018 the user Cartonera Nacional S.A. is qualified, serving the national and Central American market. To date Zona Franca La Cayena with 110,000 customs operations performed.

The Circunvalar de la Prosperidad highway is currently being delivered, representing an important connection between the city and the industrial sector. This new road not only facilitates access to the free trade zone, but also promotes the economic development of the region.

The La Cayena Free Trade Zone Declaration was extended for an additional 30 years, which guarantees stability and continuity in operations.

During this period, a total of 145,000 customs operations were carried out, which has contributed to strengthening the trade balance, consolidating Zona Franca La Cayena as a multi-sector center, promoting diversification and economic growth in various industrial areas.

The qualification of more than 40 users belonging to more than 15 sectors of the economy, from aeronautics, cosmetics to metalworking, operating from Zona Franca La Cayena and serving national and international markets, mainly the United States, was achieved.

We achieved more than 200,000 Customs Operations, being, according to DANE, the third Free Trade Zone in Colombia with the highest movement of merchandise.
